Coaching bright minds from Rural backgrounds to bring them on par with others

This program is called nurture merit. This is identifying the academically merited students from government schools and from small towns or rural areas and provide them academic support so that they can grow and achieve well academically. There is a scholarship exam by name National Merit-Cum Means Scholarship (NMMS), which isopen only for government school students from the non-essential category. This exam conducted every year by the state government. Nearly 1,00,00 students appear for the exam and about 5000 pass this exam and get the scholarship. This is a state level exam and done by all the states. We looked at the list of the student who pass NMMS with good marks out of the 5000 students, we observed that about 300 students are such that they get marks above hundred in the total marks of 180. We pick up list of 300 toppers who are getting scholarship. We got to realise that the students were coached have very high potential and they can achieve excellent results academically at 10th and subsequently at 12 th std.

Coaching students in the Govt. Schools for NMMS Exam (students in 8th std. in June 2025)

This coaching is for students in the 8th std. from rural backgrounds, belonging to families of farmers, laborers, drivers, etc. We will provide coaching to these students, for 9 months from April to December 2025 including vacations. This coaching will focus on building concepts and strengthen the ability of the students to apply them. These classes will help the students for their NMMS exam held in November / December every year. Our classes are in online mode using google meet. Classes are done for 1 hour in the evening every day. These classes are conducted by volunteer teachers. Self-motivated students from the government schools can apply. These classes are voluntary. Our teaching is also voluntary. There are NO FEES. The students who apply to us, will be given 3 tests and we will do the selection.

Program Objectives :
  • Identifying and enrolling students from the government schools across Karnataka to train for NMMS exam.
  • To provide students with essential study materials, books, etc for effective learning.
  • To monitor and support students' general well-being and academic progress through monthly check-ins.

Interested students in the 8th std. (as in June 2025) from rural backgrounds, belonging to families of farmers, laborers, drivers, etc. can attend the sample question papers given here. Coaching for Competitive Exams like Tapas and Saadhana (for the students during 9th & 10th std., Post their NMMS exam)

We want to help students who are good academically. We want to improve their performance and support their education. We will try to teach Mathematics and Science to these students. Students studying in Govt. schools (9th and 10th std.), in small towns and villages, are our focus. We identify students who are selected in the National Merit-cum-Means Scheme scholarship with higher marks of scoring more than 100 in NMMS. These children are coached for the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE), 10th board exams and also given career guidance. We propose a two-year coaching program targeting highly meritorious students from government schools across Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana with the aim of preparing students for competitive exams. So far, we have assisted over 120 children in preparing for competitive exams such as NTSE, MTSE, Tapas, Sadhana, Anweshane, Deeksha Foundation, Vidyadhan, Friends of Children, Lila Poonawalla Foundation, etc.

She aspires to become an I.A.S Officer, a goal that requires her to successfully crack the UPSC examination.

Rakshita Vishwanatha Bhat

is belongs to the village of Kible in Dodmane Taluk, Siddapura, situated in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. Rakshita aspires to study medicine. Her father has completed SSLC and is a farmer. Her mother has completed her PUC and is a homemaker. Rakshita’s sister is doing Dental – in Hassan.

Rakshita has scored 112 in NMMS. Her school is located just 2 kilometers from her home which takes 25 minutes by walk.

Quania

is belongs to Kapagal village in the Raichur district of Karnataka. She is the only daughter to her parents. Her father holds a MA and BEd degree and works as a Farmer. Additionally, he serves as a Manager for a local newspaper called “BenkiBelaku”. Her mother hold a B.D.S. (R.G.U.H.S.) degree and used to work as a Dentist. However, for the past 5 years she has been a homemaker.

Quania is a student of 10thstd. She commutes to school daily, covering distance of 8kms which takes approximately 45 to 50 minutes by a school bus. Her favorite subjects are Mathematics, Social Studies and Science. She does not attend any additional tuition classes. Her dream is to become a Doctor by cracking the NEET and KCET exam.

She got selected in the exam ANVESHANE by NGO SVYM Mysore. They select 100 students from among 20,000, from Karnataka. Quaniya is also selected in 1st level test of SADHANA, by Rashtrothan Parishat. She is very studious and reserved.

Siddhartha B. M

belongs to the village of Konasagara in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka. His father is a Branch Post Master, while his mother holds B.A. and B.Ed. degree. Siddhartha has a younger sister named Niharika, who is currently studying in the 5thgrade. Currently, Siddhartha is in the 10th grade. His school is 20 km away. His favorite subject is Mathematics.

He attends tuition classes from 6.00pm to 8.15pm on English grammar and Social Studies. Siddhartha harbors a dream to excel in engineering by cracking the JEE.

is from the village of Inora-hosa-halli in the Kolar district of Karnataka. He wishes to be BE. Srujan's father and mother both completed their 2ndPUC. His father is a farmer, while his mother is a housewife. Srujan has a sibling currently pursuing 2nd PUC. Srujan is a student of 10th. He scored 104 in NMMS. Chandana H.S

is belongs to Harakanahalli village in Maddur taluk situated in Mandya district of Karnataka. Her ambitious dream is to become an I.A.S. Officer, Chandana is highly motivated to pursue a career in the civil services as an I.A.S Officer.

Her parents are uneducated. Her father works as a farmer, while mother is a house wife. Chandana’s younger sister is studying in 8thstd.

She is from KANNADA medium, 10thgrade. She scored 127 in NMMS. She undertakes a 4.5 kilometer journey to school, which takes approximately 30 minutes by bicycle. She is extraordinary in articulation and in her positive attitude.

She is selected in1st level test of SADHANA, by Rashtrothan Parishat.

VijayBGudagapur

hails from Gokak town of Belagavi district of Karnataka. He is too ambitious. He is very emotional. His father, has unfortunately, passed away, leaving a significant impact on Vijay’s life. His mother, with a 9th grade education, works at a hospital. Vijay has a younger sister who is currently studying in 8th std. Vijay is presently studying in 10th std.

Arun M Arya

is a resident of Chamaraj nagar district in Karnataka and currently a 10thstd. student. His father holds a BA degree and works as a photographer, while his mother has completed PUC and ITI in Electronics and Communications. Presently, she is a homemaker. Arya is their only child.

Arya's favorite subject is Science. His school is located 4 kilometers away from his home, which he comfortably reached by bicycle in 15 to 20 minutes. His aspiration is to become an Aerospace Scientist, and he is actively gathering knowledge about the profession—exploring what it entails and what specific areas of study are required to achieve his dream. He achieved a score of 132 marks in NMMS.

He gotselected in the exam ANVESHANEby NGO SVYM Mysore. They select 100 students from among 20,000 from Karnataka. And from among they select 5. Arun is 1 among the 5.

He is also selected in1st level test of SADHANA, byRashtrothanParishat. He is very disciplined. Very deep in commitments, spiritual boy.

Chinmayi is from a village called Doddaguni in Gubbi taluk, Tumkur district. Her father completed his MA and mother has studied up to PUC. Chinmayi is their only child. Her father is a farmer and maintains the family coconut farm.

Chinmayi studies in Girls’ Govnt Jn School Gubbi which is about 25km away from her home. She travels about 3 hours every day using Govt. bus to her school and back. She secured 104/180 marks in NMMS exam in her 8th std.

She got 3rd prize in 200 meters running at district level. 1st prize in state- level Yuva Samsath competition. 1st prize in quiz competition at taluk level. 1st prize in science speech competition at district level.

Her score in 10th is 95%. She is selected in Rashtrotthana Parishat. (They take 120 students out of 12000 students, after tests at 3 levels.) The education and hostel are FREE. She will get training for NEET. She is at Bangalore now and doing 11th,12th here, taking NEET in 2025.

Her class has a strength of 40. Half of them are from Navodaya. Many students are from private schools with CBSE syllabus at 10th. The number of students from Govt schools is only 5. She is among top 10 in her class.

Along her are students by name Monisha and Manasa, both from govt schools and both taught by us through on line classes, during their 9th and 10th std.

Chandrika Sankar Bangi

Chandrika Sankar Bangilives in a village called Jagadal, Banahatti taluk, Bagalkot district. Her father is a farmer and her mother is a homemaker. They have 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy. Chandrika is their second child. They have a small farm and some cattle, which are their only source of family income. She is in Kannada medium.

She is studying in a school which is about 1km away from home and she walks to reach her school. She secured A+ grade in 9th std exams and also secured 103/180 marks in NMMS exam. She cleared 1st level of Rashtrotthana Parishatstate level I exam. This exam is taken by 12000 students, and 1200 are selected. Her 10th std score is 98.7%. Her ambition is to become an IAS officer.

She got admission in Awanti foundation college Dhrawad for 11th and 12th (2023-24,24-25). She will get JEE grooming there. Education ( normally costing 1.0 L/yr) is free. Hostel fees of 85000/yr need be mobilised. Some have donated. We have attached her to Scholership giving organisations. Waiting for the results.

There are 80 students in her class. Only 6 are from Govt schools. Rest are have done 10th in private schools. Only three are from Kannada medium and chandrik is one. We were worried as how will she compete. She stands, top 15th in the class!!

Geeta KesanamAashinee

Geeta KesanamAashinee lives in Guttahalli, Bengaluru. Her parents are well-educated. Her father is self-employed and her mother is a homemaker. The family monthly income through father’s business is around Rs. 1,25,000 per month. The elder daughter is pursuing computer science engineering in NITK Surathkal.

Geeta is studying in Stella Maris High School in Bengaluru. She secured 96% in 10th . She had secured 101/180 marks in NMMS exam. She has completed her 1st level of Rashtrotthana Parishat exam where 12000 appeared and 1200 selected..

Geeta is a good chess player. She has participated in district-level chess competitions 2 times and state-level competition 1 time. She has been selected to the All-India General Knowledge examination for 5 years in a row. Her ambition is to become an architect.

Mahadev Prabhu

Mahadev Prabhu lives in a village called Mudagunda, Kollegala taluk, Chamarajnagara. His father works in a ceramics factory and earns around Rs. 7000 per month. This is the only source of family’s income. His mother is a homemaker. Mahadev has a younger brother who studies in 6th Standard.

Mahadev is studying in Adarsha Vidyalaya in Kollegal. It is about 1km from his home and reaches there by bicycle. He also secured 100/180 marks in NMMS exam. He has passed all 3 tages of Rashtrotthana Parishat exam. Near to 12000 students take exam and 120 are selected . Mahadev has got free seat ( education and hostel at Rashtrothan). He will get JEE coaching there. He has joined. His 10th score is 98%.

He also participates in many cultural and sports activities. He participated in state-level and district-level quiz competitions and won 1st prize. He aspires to be an academic professor and teach at a college.

Manasa lives in a village called Madhuvanahalli, Kollegal taluk, Chamarajanagar district. Her father is a farmer and her mother is a tailor. Manasa has an older brother who is studying in his final year diploma. She has to travel 45 min to reach the school

Manasa is studying in Aadarsha Vidyalaya in Mudigonda, Kollegala district. She secured 102/180 marks in NMMS exam. She also participates in many extracurricular activities. She participated in state level and district level quiz competitions and recently won 1st prize in district level science quiz. She is selected in state level Exam called Tapas. She got free college and boarding at Tapas. It saves the family nr to 4 lakhs. Bangalore and is given intense training for NEET exam along 11th and 12th . Her 10th std score is 98.7%. Her ambition is to become an Aeronautical Engineer.

Monisha D lives in a village called Bannur, T Narasipura taluk, Mysore district. Her father is a farmer and her mother is a homemaker. They have 3 children, 2 girls and 1 boy. Their family income is around Rs. 20,000 per month.

She is studying in Adarsha Vidyalaya Sosale school. Which is about 13 km away from the home. She reaches her school by bus and spends about 90 mins everyday on travel. She also secured 137/180 marks in the NMMS exam, highest inKarnataka. Her 10th sore is 98%. She has also written the Viveka scholar program exam. she has passed 3 levels of Rashtrotthana Parishat (RP). She aspires to be a doctor. She has got Free admission ( hotel and education) in RP Bangalore. RP takes exam to 1200 students and after 3 rounds of exam selects 120 students.

Rahul Melavankilives in Satish nagar, Gokak taluk, Belgaum district. His father works as a shopkeeper and earns around Rs. 20,000 per month. His mother is a homemaker. Together they have 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl.

He is studying in Adarsha Vidyalaya RMSA Khangaon. His school is about 30 km from home and he travels by public transport. The school is quite far and he has to spend nearly 3 hours on travel everyday. Yet, he secured 109/180 marks in NMMS exam. He cleared 1st level of Rashtrotthana Parishattest, a state level exam for govt school students in 10th. His 0th std score is 93%. He got admission in Awanti foundation Dharawad. Education is free.

He also participates in many extracurricular activities at both state and district level. He got 2nd prize in taluk level science exhibition and throw ball game. He aspires to become NDA officer.

Anusha Tanakanakalstudies in 10th std. in Morarji DesaiResidential School,Bevoor. She lives in the school hostel . Her family is also from Bevoor in Yelaburga taluk, Koppal district. Her family includes her father, mother, an elder sister and a younger brother. Her father is a farmer, her mother isa homemaker. Her family income is about 25,000/- per month.

She also got 103/180 marks inNMMS exam.She wrote the Talent exam in S.K.R College Gangavati and ranked 13th. She participates in competitions such as essays, debates and presentations. She has cleared the 2 levels of Rashtrotthan Parishatstate level exams out of 12000 students from Karnataka. She got 98.7% in 10th std ( may 2023) . Her ambition is to become a doctor.

About our work

Selection

The above students are all from govt schools. In June 22, we approached 250 schools across Karnatak,. We requested schools to refer to us , academically potential students, who have done well in the scholarship exam of 8th std and scored above 100 marks ( out 0f 180). The exam is called NMMS. Only govt school students are allowed to take it. Nr to 1 lakh students take it. Nr to 6000 students pass the exam. Near to 40 students responded to us. Only above 8 students stayed with us.

Teaching

We do 1 class a day of one hour, between 7 pm to 8 pm. It is online. We do classes for nr to two years, starting 9th std to end of 10th std. We cover 5 Books.

Mahs EXEMPLAR 9th std, 2. Science exemplar for 9th std. 3&4. Similarly 2 books for 10th std. All are from NCERT 5. Mtg guide - Chapter wise Questions -5 previous years of NTSE .

Ist 3 students who appeared for 10 th in 21-22, 2 nd batch of 8 appeared for 10th std in 23 . 3 rd batch which has 8 students from Krn and 12 from Mah. Taking their 10th exam in 23-24. 4 th has 8 from Kan, 8 from MHA. 3 from AP, 14 from UP and 3 from MP. They will take 10 th exam in 24-25.
